Do you have an awkward feeling every time you see pictures of your parents, grandparents, or even great-grandparents? During the second half of the 20th century, fashion changed a lot due to social movements which created a series of styles totally different one from another.

1. In the 1950s, teenage boys wore tight black pants with shirts or short jackets in fluorescent colors, like green and pink. Girls wore blouses with wide skirts. Long-pointed shoes were in at that time, and they had high heels.

2. In the 1960s, there was a huge revolution in clothes and everything changed. While the girls loved mini-skirts and high boots, men adopted the famous Beatles haircut. Men had long hair for the first time in the 20th century.

3. In the early 1970s, the hippies brought the flower-power style. Clothes were very colorful and both men and women wore long hair. Girls wore long baggy dresses and men wore flared jeans and colored shirts and T-shirts.

4. In the 1980s, teenagers wore red, blue, purple, and green punk hairstyles, and colored makeup. Black leather and chains were very popular for both genders.

5. In the 1990s, people just wanted to feel comfortable, so they would probably wear a combination of loose sweatshirts and a baseball cap, or sweat suits with athletic shoes.

There was not much technology, so it would take people some time to discover what was trendy in the big centers, or even abroad. That’s why fashion changed gradually, and we can somehow guess the date of a photo by the clothes people wore. But be careful! Because of the constant revivals and the cult for what is vintage or retro, you may find yourself wearing clothes like your ancestors did overnight.
