A ESTRATÉGIA DE PUBLIÇÃO DOS ROMANCES

 

A vinda da família real ao Brasil, em 1808, gerou uma série de eventos ligados à modernização da cidade do Rio de Janeiro e, consequentemente, de todo o país.

Um dos avanços conquistados com a chegada da Corte portuguesa ao Brasil foi a criação da imprensa nacional, fato que propiciou o surgimento de periódicos que começaram a circular a partir da primeira década do século XIX.

A Imprensa Nacional nasceu por decreto do príncipe regente D. João, em 13 de maio de 1808, com o nome de Impressão Régia. Recebeu, no decorrer dos anos, novos nomes: Real Officina Typographica, Tipographia Nacional, Tipographia Imperial, Imprensa Nacional, Departamento de Imprensa Nacional, e, novamente, Imprensa Nacional.

A partir de dois rudimentares prelos iniciais e 28 caixas de tipos que vieram de Portugal a bordo da nau Medusa, integrante da frota que trouxe a Família Real Portuguesa, a Imprensa Nacional orgulhosamente ostenta uma singular história de serviços ao país, tanto em sua missão de registrar diariamente a vida administrativa do Brasil pelo Diário Oficial da União como por ser órgão de substantiva importância no plano cultural.

A história dos mais de 200 anos dessa instituição pública, uma das mais antigas do país, confunde-se com a História do Brasil e pontua o desenvolvimento da informação e da cultura do país. Foi a Imprensa Nacional que fez surgir a imprensa no Brasil, em 13 de maio de 1808, e o primeiro jornal impresso no país, a Gazeta do Rio de Janeiro, em 10 de setembro de 1808, além disso, teve sólida presença como casa editora até o ano 2000. Ou seja, sua criação é, inquestionavelmente, um dos mais belos legados da transferência da Corte Portuguesa para o Brasil, uma herança que sempre se traduziu em bons e imprescindíveis serviços à sociedade, à Nação.

O advento da imprensa não foi o único responsável pela popularização dos periódicos. Houve também o aumento do público leitor, com a ascensão da burguesia no país, que levou ao aumento do número de pessoas letradas, interessadas em acompanhar as notícias que eram veiculadas.

Foi nesse contexto que começaram a ser publicados os romances do período romântico. A seção dos periódicos a que pertencia o texto literário recebia o nome de folhetim e, geralmente, ficava na parte inferior da página.
